Heritage Park welcomes a new exhibit from Jan. 14 – April 30, 2023; We Were Here: Stories from Early Chinatown! Bring your family and come learn about Chinese history on the prairies through art and imagination, discover fictional stories written by members of the Chinese community and explore two iterations of Chinatown in Calgary.
Heritage Park is honored to partner with Lougheed House and host the Chinatown exhibit to tell the diverse stories of the Chinese community in early Western Canadian history.

Grand Opening Celebration
Ring in the new year and bring on the good luck and cheer! Join us to celebrate the Lunar New Year at Gasoline Alley Museum on Jan. 14 from 10am – 4pm. 2023 is the year of the rabbit — a kind, strong and confident animal that symbolizes longevity, peace and prosperity. Let’s welcome the year of the rabbit with performances, activities and food inspired by Lunar New Year traditions!
Enjoy the spectacle of traditional lion dancers from 11 – 11:30 am as they as they bring us good luck for the year. Learn about Chinese experiences on the prairies through our new exhibit, explore traditional writing styles and get your name in Chinese characters, or enjoy Mahjong games and activities with your family and friends.
The fun doesn’t stop there! Enjoy the musical performances by the Calgary Chinese Music Development Association (CCMDA), receive a custom-made red envelope with chocolate coins to bring good luck, enjoy delicious Chinese treats served on a prosperity tray and see the unveiling of the new grocery store name to represent Chinese grocers in Calgary at 12 pm.

We Were Here: Stories from Early Chinatown is located in Gasoline Alley Museum and will be open during the museum’s regular operating hours:
Tuesday to Sunday from Jan. 14 – April 30, 2023, open 10 am – 4 pm
Note: We Were Here: Stories from Early Chinatown will also be open from 10 am – 4 pm on the following Mondays: Feb. 20, March 27 and April 10, 2023.

Is parking included?
Parking is not included in the ticket prices, but it is available at the Park. Parking kiosks are located in the middle of the parking lot and in Heritage Town Square. If you’re an Escape Annual Membership holder, parking at Heritage Park is free!
How does purchasing a ticket support Heritage Park?
As a registered charity, all proceeds from We Were Here: Stories from Early Chinatown will allow Heritage Park to continue engaging audiences with immersive experiences and shared stories of Western Canada’s diverse culture and heritage.
