DESCRIPTION:In honour of Pride Month\, we’re excited to be running a fantastic walking tour on the beautiful Fort Calgary grounds. \nQUEER HISTORY WALKING TOUR\nWhen: Saturday\, September 9 \nTime: 2–3 pm \nPrice: $10 (walking tour only – access to the museum requires additional admission) \nAges: 16 and up due to discussion of mature topics \nDescription: How was gender and sexuality constructed in early Calgary and Canada? This one-hour outdoor walking tour explores the impact of militarism and cowboys on gender and sexuality\, and highlights those who broke the boundaries of society to explore their own path. The walk will run rain or shine\, so come dressed for the weather. \nTickets

DESCRIPTION:September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. Both days are intended to honour the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools\, as well as to recognize the inter-generational impacts of residential schools on individuals\, families\, and communities. \nAs part of our ongoing mission of reconciliation and decolonization\, Fort Calgary will be offering a variety of free programming all day\, including: \n\nFree museum admission\nTwo walking tours\nFamily-friendly crafts\nAn after-hours screening of the film Bones of Crows with guest speaker Michelle Thrush\n\nWe highly encourage visitors to our site on this day to come wearing an orange shirt or other orange clothing items\, such as scarves\, hats\, buttons\, etc. If you are in need of an orange shirt\, we recommend purchasing from the Orange Shirt Society\, a non-profit organization that aims to create awareness of the generational impacts of Residential Schools through Orange Shirt Day activities.
