Have you ever fed thousands of fish at once?? Now you can at Bow Habitat Station and the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery!
The Fish Hatchery was recently closed for renovations to upgrade its water cleaning equipment, but we are thrilled to say that it is now back up and running. Over 1.3 million fish are raised in the Fish Hatchery each year as part of the Alberta Provincial Fish Stocking program. You can learn all about the process of raising those fish, as well as see eggs, alevin (newly hatched fish), and fry (baby fish… not the kind with ketchup) on a 30 minute Fish Hatchery Tour, offered Tuesday – Saturday at 2:00 PM. All tours wrap up with a fish feeding, where everyone is given a bowl of fish food and the chance to feed thousands of rainbow trout! Tours cost just $4.00 + tax / person (kids 3 and under are free).
If you want to skip right to the excitement you can join in a fish feeding, offered Tuesday – Saturday at 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. This option is great for those on a tight schedule or with little ones. This activity, which is sure to be a splash and costs just $2.50 + tax / person (kids 3 and under are free) so it won’t break the bank!
As an extra-special perk, you can feed the fish at FISHtival! FISHtival focuses on family-friendly fish and outdoor recreation activities. You can participate in outdoor activities like snowshoeing and casting practice at no charge and take part in indoor activities like fish feeding and fly-tying for a reduced admission of just $5 + tax / person (kids 3 and under are free). FISHtival is held on the Saturday of the Family Day long weekend (February 15, 2020) from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
