SUMMARY:Walk for Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:We invite the community to participate in the 17th annual Walk for Reconciliation this National Indigenous Peoples Day. This event honours residential school survivors\, the children who didn’t return home from residential schools\, and celebrating the vibrant and lively Indigenous communities and cultures that still exist today.  \nThe walk begins at 9 am at the Harry Hays Building (220 4 Ave SE) and travel down the RiverWalk to end at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (750 9 Ave SE) for a community meal\, an outdoor gathering with speeches and performances by drummers and dancers\, and a variety of other free activities like fireside stories with a Treaty 7 Elder\, traditional Indigenous hand games\, and Métis cultural programming at Calgary’s oldest building.   \nFor full event itinerary\, visit theconfluence.ca/events/wfr-2026

SUMMARY:Walk for Reconciliation 2023
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to join the Walk for Reconciliation for an opportunity to reflect on the difficult history and atrocities of residential schools in Canada\, the legacies of survivors\, and steps we can take in the healing process as we move towards a stronger future together. We encourage participants to bring any banners\, signs\, or flags you would like to display during the Walk. \nEVENT DETAILS \n\n8 am: start walk at Harry Hays Building | 220 4 Ave SE\n10:15 am: walk ends at Fort Calgary | 950 9th Ave SE\n10:30 am: outdoor gathering with performances by drummers and dancers\, and speeches\n10:30 am: community meal catered by Spolumbo’s. Free lunch for 200 participants\n\nABOUT THE WALK\nThis annual walk began in 2009\, as a partnership between Trellis Society and the Aboriginal Friendship Center of Calgary\, to commemorate Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s formal apology to the survivors of Indian Residential Schools. The Walk\, originally held on June 11\, was later moved to June 21\, National Indigenous Peoples Day\, to acknowledge the larger conversation and active movement towards Reconciliation. \nVOLUNTEER WITH THE WALK FOR RECONCILIATION\nWe are looking for several volunteers to help out with this event!
